UK vs Clemson - Music City Bowl

Bigbluemist

VS

UK will be playing their first bowl game since 1999. Ironically it was the Music City Bowl as well.

Clemson is lead by a strong running game in James Davis and CJ Spiller. The OL averages 320# and has 3 first team all ACC performers. We are well aware of UK struggles stopping the run.

UK did show some life vs UT and held the Vols in check most of the day. Clemson's, Proctor is not a running threat at QB and UK's defense has performed better vs. less mobile QB's.

UK's defense while awful in giving up yards was a top 10 team in turnover margain. The Cats MUST win the turnover game tomorrow to have a chance to beat Clemson.

Clemson has ACC defensive POY in Gaines Adams. One fact to look at is the only two passing offensives Clemson faced this year they gave up over 500 yards in the air.

Look for a healthy Rafael Little to be utilized in the passing game as well as draws. He could also have a big day returning punts. Steve Johnson, WR might be sitting on a big game as well.

UK is going to score points. The $64,000 question is can they slow down Clemson's running game?

Look for an excited UK team to come out and get after Clemson. I'm not sure the Tigers are as excited to be here. Your looking at team that was in the top 5 and looking for a BCS game.

UK 34 Clemson 24

Best Game of the Year for the Cats!

BleedBlue7
Wildcats Thunder Member

VS

This was by far the best played game of the year by the Cats. A very well played game defensively and a very balanceed scoring affair on offense. If we make a habit of playing that type of game then we could make a run in the tournment.

I thought Tubby flat-out coached his butt off tonight. He was alive and energetic the whole game. He coached one heck of a game tonight.

Thomas played a good game. He came off the bench and grabbed some good defensive rebounds and had some blocks and he even hit a 3!! Good game Sheray!!

WOO!!! Man you was a stopper tonight on defense. He had some blocks and had some tough rebounds and he HUSTLED the whole game tonight. That block that he had coming from the weak-side tonight was absolutely dirty!!! He has really come on for us lately and I think that all of us Big Blue Fans love him for it because I know I do. I was hoping that they would get him the ball more, so we could have seen some more of those sweet 18-20 feet jumpers. He has really played with a ton of passion and heart this year and I'm sure he will continue to do it for the rest of his career. GREAT GAME WOO AND KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!

Morris had another great game tonight as usual. He had helped us so much this year. This is pretty much his team right now and he deserves every bit of it.

Jasper, what a game tonight. He finished with 9 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds and was the player of the game. I'll take tis performance any night.

Meeks, yet again had a good game. He finished with 10 points. He is going to devolp into a very nice player by the time he gets to be a senior and I can't wait to watch him.

Crawford finally got out of his slump tonight in a big way finishing with 14 points and hit 3 out of 4 from behind the arc. If we can get that kind of performance from him every game we will be that much better.

Bradley has another solid game once again. Tubby was on him the whole game and he really responded well. He finished with 14 points and we will need him cime SEC play.

Harris, we finally got to see him more than 36 seconds tonight. He looks like a real nice player and we can probably use him come SEC play.

So overall, a very solid game played by the Cats tonight. But, I gotta give UMASS their props because they never quit playing and they showed a lot of heart even when they was down by 21 late in the 2nd half. A great win for the Cats and hopefully this type of performance will lead to others like it in the very near future!!!

UMass vs UK - Preview

Fewfirstchoice

VS

It seems every time you turn around a former coach or player is standing in UKs way. Last time it was Ricky P with Louisville and now its the little sharp shooter Travis Ford back with UMass. Last time Tubby and company did quite well with Ricky and we can only hope for much of the same against Ford. Louisville and UMass played earlier this year at Freedom Hall with UMass coming out ahead. That was a big statement for Coach Ford to defeat his former coach in Pitino, now he'll try to do the same with his former assitant in Tubby. But lets hope UK makes it more of a challenge for Coach Ford and his UMass squad when they come to Rupp then Louisville did.

This UK and UMass matchup should be a solid tilt, but I can't promise it will be anything close to the two matchups they had back in 95 and 96. This Friday Coach Ford will bring his UMass squad in to Rupp looking for a upset, but UK and Tubby will be ready for the challenge. UMass will bring in a solid starting lineup with 4 returning from there team last season. Ford brought in two freshman and three transfers for his UMass team in his second season at the helm. Travis Ford has his team playing great in a clone style that Pitino played in his tenure at UK. Coach Ford likes for his team to run and gun, the faster the better.

UMass will start:
R. Freeman C/F
S. Lasme F
J. Life G
C. Lowe G

These four will probably start for sure as to the fifth it's just how Travis Ford is feeling as to who he starts there. UMass bench is a strength from what I have seen and heard and they like to play a lot of players. But at crunch time he has his five he likes just like all coaches. Travis Ford will have his team ready and Tubby better do the same.

People were talking about Santa Clara being a trap game, I for one believe this UMass game is the true trap game if there is one. The kids will be looking forward to there Christmas break coming and wanting to get away. If Tubby doesn't watch, the kids wont be ready to play. Although I expect Tubby to have his team ready. I look for Morris to have his normal game. Crawford is a kid I expect to explode sometime soon and the UMass game is the best time for it to happen. I look for Crawford to have around 18 or 20 and start playing well the rest of the year. UMass is a team that deosn't zone a lot, so I expect to see alot of driving and dishing to force them to go to zone. UK should have a advantage in every aspect of this game but you know this means nothing until the game is played.

I see this game being a slug fest sort of. I think both teams will score(for UK, its about time)UK's offense did look a little better against Santa Clara. I see Morris and Crawford being dominate with there athletic abiltiy and leading UK in scoring. I can see the score being something close to UK 80 and Umass 65. UK has more studs and bigger bodies and that will pay off in the end.

Yet another sloppy win... Round 2

VS

Well here we go again. Yet again, another sloppy win over Santa Clara tonight at Rupp. But like always, a win is a win. It was a very close game in the first half but the Cats clawed their way back to pull away.

Morris was yet again the work horse of the game. 23 points and 13 rebounds, which is a career high for him. He played an execellent game tonight and he could very much be a legit All-American if he keeps it up.

WOO, sorry man. I was pullin for Tubby to leave you in there so you could score more cuz you could have easily provided us with a double digit scoring performance.

Meeks played a pretty solid game, yet again. Not quite the schooling he put on Louisville but he gave us some quality minutes with 9 points.

Porter, sorry again man. You was really shooting the ball tonight and I was wanting to see you score some more.

Harris played for a minute or less. Not quite the look everybody was wanting to get of him but we will have to wait till UMASS and hopefully get to see him play more and see what he can do.

Perry, Perry, Perry... I don't know what was wrong with him but it is not the type of performance we need from one of the seniors on the team. Hopefully he will step up for us by SEC play.

Crawford, are you shooting a round ball or a square ball because nothing is falling for you man. Hopefully your shots will start falling... let's just hope.

TO ALL THE FRESHMAN... you guys came in and played great and gave us a much needed spark.

I hope we play better Friday when UMASS comes to Rupp because we will need to to beat them, becasue they are no cupcake and we will be in a dog-fight.

GO BIG BLUE!!!!!

Santa Clara vs UK - Preview

VS

Kentucky(7-3) plays Santa Clara(8-3) next at Rupp Arena. Santa Clara is out of West Coast Conference and coming off a "BIG" win against Stanford. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.

The Broncos are returning 9 players from last years team along with 6 newcomers this year.

Santa Clara has already played Utah, California, Nevada, Hawaii and at Stanford. So for them Kentucky will be just another big name school that they believe they can beat after facing the other teams and beating Stanford on the road.

UK needs to be focused on the Broncos and not dewelling on the win over UL and looking ahead to UMass and taking Santa Clara lightly. UK needs to come out ready to play a solid all around game on both ends of the court from the get go and put this team away early or it will be along night.

I believe UK wins this game. But it could be closer than some may want to believe.

My thoughts on the Win over UL

BleedBlue7
Wildcats Thunder Member

VS

Not the kind of game I would want to see but a win is a win whether it is sloppy played or not. If UL could shoot the ball today from 3 then I think we would have lost this game because we gave up so many uncontested 3's but fortunatly UL couldn't hit the ocean if they was on a boat in it.

Meeks is a beast. 4-7 from 3, 18 points. Without him I think we wouldn't have won.

Woo and Thomas!!! Thank god for them. They both played one heck of a game when Morris was in foul trouble and on the bench.

Morris was a non factor today. He was in foul trouble the whole game. But this win did prove to everybody that we can still win without Morris. But he just makes us that much better whenever he is in.

Crawford didn't really come out of his shell today. He had a few good baskets but that is it. I don't know if he knows the meaning of the word Pass whenever nothing is there.

Bradley played pretty well. He hit some key shots for us when we needed it the most.

Jasper also played pretty well. But like the announcers said, we need him to take more shots and he needs to work on creating his own shots more often and we will be in better shape.

Sloppy... yes...

A win... YES!!!!!! So I'm happy to get a win anyway I can get it, sloppy or not!!!!

UK Football Recruiting Update

Bigbluemist
Wildcats Thunder Football Recruiting Analyst

Instead of winding down this recruiting class it seems UK is mentioned with a kid on a daily basis. This past weekend saw DE/LN Greg Meisner from PA verbal to the Cats.

Here is the best guess of how UK will finish out the class:

QB:
Matt Lentz from SC will be the only QB UK takes. Danny Dembry a hs QB out of NC who might come as a WR.

RB:
UK has Moncell Allen and Demtrius Goode in the fold for next season. There is a lot of speculation Vic Anderson a WVA commit might be leaning towards the Cats.

WR:
Heading into this recruiting season it looked like UK would not many, if any WR’s. Two of the freshmen have left along with the speculation of Keenan Burton bolting after his junior season. UK has a commitment from John Keye. JUCO Terrance Scott if a target for the Cats as well as Danny Dembry, mentioned above. Darnell Williams is also on the Cats list.

OL:
This is definitely the biggest need in UK’s class. Mike Cross, Brad Durham, Billy Joe Murphy and Josh Wincell are already in the fold. The jewel of the class is Stuart Hines form Bowling Green. Accounts have Hines having a good visit to UK this past weekend. Paul Millay from Owensboro is also another kid needed. JUCO Ako Poti is suppose to decided between UK and Penn St before Christmas.

DL:
Shane McCord is committed to UK. Jeff Boyd according to recent rivals article says he is committed to UK. He is still taking other visits. JUCO Shukree Barfield is set to decide next week. The teams mentioned are: UK, Nebraska, UL and USF.

DE:
UK has commitments from Antwante Glenn, Greg Meisner and Largrane, GA standout DJ Stafford.

LB:
Another “Granger,” Mychal Bailey and greyshirt Chris Drayton have filled LB slots for UK. Jacob Dufrene from LA could also come into the mix.

DB:
At this moment UK only has a committed from Randall Burden. There are a lot of names mentioned here with UK. Woodney Turenne the top ranked JUCO is making a January visit. It seems he will end up at UF. Jerimy Finch a Michigan commit is scheduled to visit with teammate Jeff Boyd in January as well. Anthony Watkins by all accounts had a good visit this past weekend. Keep an eye on Dequan Dembry and Marquis Coleman.

UK has commitments from athletes Duran Jefferson and Greg Wilson.

It should be an interesting time until we reach signing day in February!

UK vs. Indiana Preview

Fewfirstchoice
Wildcats Thunder Basketball/Recruiting Analyst

VS

Well here comes another weekend and another big game against a rival for UK. This Saturday UK will play IU, and get this it will be at Rupp were it should be a for a change. This year the game will have a different flavor with the new head man at the helm for IU. Kelvin Sampson was hired to lead IU back to the promised land. It's about time they learned that the UK hater Mike Davis is wasn't going to take IU anywhere.

IU has lost 3 startes from last year but got one very important and demanding force in the middle back this year, DJ White. IU recruiting class wasn't very encouraging last year but Sampson will get the studs rolling back in to Bloomington in no time. Sampson could start a combo of any kind with his kids. But you can look for White, Ratliff, and Calloway to start beside 2 other bigs. It may be a rough time for IU now, but give Sampson a couple years and he will have Assembly Hall Rockin again.

Look for UK to start the same 5 against IU as they did against Chattanooga. With the smaller lineup I look for UK to keep pushing a up tempo style and let the 3 guards push and make something happen. I think Tubby coached a great game against UC on Tuesday. Going to a 3 guard lineup was a great move and will help the Cats exploit the IU team that has a short bench. Morris and White should be a matchup of men on Saturday, that will porbably be a push for both teams. I can see UK guards namely Crawford and Bradley out gunning IU guards. Look for Bradley to start scoring more with his push to the 2g. He just isn't stable enough in a half court set to run the point most of the time. I do think he can handle it for about 15 min. a game while Jasper is resting. I think this lineup is the start of some more up tempo play and more scoring form UK's big 3(Crawford,Bradley,and Morris).

I look for this game to be close in the first half, but can see UK pulling out to a decent lead in the second half. I think IU lack of depth will hurt them if Tubby decides to push the tempo, which he should with the small lineup. I say UK 81 and IU 65. Lets go Cats.
