UK fans will be able to give a warm welcome to MSVU coach Sean Woods, a member of UK’S “Unforgettables” in 1992. Unfortunately, coach Woods is bringing in a struggling team with one win and eight losses. Admittedly, MVSU has played a challenging schedule thus far, but they have been beaten soundly in most games. Woods has gone to the JC ranks in much of his recruiting, but so far there has been very little improvement by MSVU in Woods short tenure as coach. I know UK fans will want Woods to succeed at MVSU after he leaves Lexington and it’s fair to say that Woods job might be on the line if MVSU finishes the season with little or no improvement over the past two years.
Hopefully for coach Woods….MVSU will start winning once they play their conference games
The truth is that MSVU has very little talent and they are a small team. There isn’t a single player on MSVU that merits any special concern from UK. This isn’t to say that MVSU won’t play hard….they will…..being back in Rupp Arena will be special for Woods and he will want his team to not be embarrassed.
UK defeated an inspired IU team that hung with the Cats through much of the game. However, although the Cats had a poor night shooting from the field, UK demonstrated it’s superiority with some solid defense, good rebounding, and only 6 TO’s, Game ball to Josh Harrellson who in 29 minutes contributed 14 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks and zero TO’s. Liggins again played great defense while adding 19 points and 9 rebounds. Also, Knight played a solid game with 18 points, went 10-10 at the FT line, added 4 assists and had only one TO. Terrence Jones unfortunately was hampered by foul trouble throughout the game and it obviously hurt his usual aggressiveness.
I look for coach Cal to use this MVSU game to work on his offense and defense….might even experiment with some zone defense. Also, some subs should get some decent minutes. This will very likely be a blowout with UK winning by 30 or more points….a lot will depend on when Cal pulls a lot of the starters. GO CATS!
