Florida arrives in Rupp arena as clearly the best team in the SEC this season. This is arguably Billy Donovan’s best Florida team since the championship teams. This Florida team has terrific balance in scoring and solid support off the bench….especially now that Will Yeguete has recovered from his knee injury. This Gator team is a very good shooting team….especially from the perimeter. Murphy is hitting a terrific 46.5% and Frazier is hitting 48.9% from long distance. Florida is playing it’s best defense in years.

Patric Young has improved each season and is giving the team good offense and defense in the paint while leading the Gators in rebounds. Scottie Wilbekin leads Florida in assists and steals. Importantly, the Gators 3 top scorers are all hitting over 80% from the charity line.

Florida has already defeated UK in Gainesville 69-52 so the Gators will be looking for a total sweep of the Cats this season.

Kentucky sadly has continued to play poorly and without intensity…… and limps back into Lexington losing to a so so 8-8 Georgia team. This exceedingly disappointing season is essentially over and a season that started with so much hope has ended in a disaster. This UK team has lost far too many games to inferior opponents only because those opponents played with heart and intensity….while too many UK players have mailed in their embarrassing performances.

This last regular season game is senior day, but it’s hard to be optimistic against a clearly superior Florida team. One can hope that there is a little bit of pride left in this UK team that has too often played without any pride in their performances. I see a Florida win by at least 10 points. GO CATS!

Georgia has been up and down this season with a 14-15 record. The Bulldogs are not a bad team, but got off to a very rocky start this season losing 6 of their first 9 games. Now Georgia is 8-8 in the SEC with some good wins and tough losses. This team only averages 60.4 PPG, but they play disciplined offense and good defense. Coach Mark Fox goes deep in his bench with 10 players averaging 11 plus minutes PG.

Georgia is led by Ken Caldwell-Pope who is an all everything player…and a darn good player….who leads the team in scoring averaging 18.0 PPG…..leads in rebounds at 7 PG….leads in steals with 62 and is 3rd in assists with 53. Also, Pope is 74-196 from the perimeter for a solid 37.8%…..in addition, he also shoots 80% from the FT line. Vincent Williams and Sherrard Brantley are both very good perimeter shooters for the Bulldogs hitting 37%.

Obviously, a huge key in defeating Georgia is minimizing the effectiveness of Caldwell-Pope, but that hasn’t been easy for any opponent this season.

UK is trying to recover from a very poor game against an inspired Arkansas team that stole the ball time and time again and caused 19 TO’s. It was a most unfortunate performance for a UK team that had won 3 straight SEC games….including playing their best overall game of the year in defeating Missouri. Instead of building on their recent good play and success, the Cats played one of their worst games of the year….and played soft with no intensity.

The Georgia game is very close to a must win game for UK’s NCAA chances. After Georgia, UK has to play Florida and that will be a huge challenge. Time has now run out on these Cats….they simply can’t afford any more bad performances and hope to win against a good Georgia team in their home arena. I will be exceedingly disappointed if UK has another bad game with everything riding on getting in the NCAA tourney. I’m picking a UK win by 4 points. GO CATS!

Arkansas led by coach Mike Anderson has been great at home and lousy on the road. At home, the Razorbacks are 16-1 with the only loss being a 91-82 defeat to highly ranked Syracuse early in the year. Anderson, a long time assistant to Nolan Richardson, is in the process of trying to bring the “40 minutes of Hell” that Richardson implemented as coach. Arkansas is athletic and quick….often press their opponents… and have averaged 9.1 steals PG.

B.J. Young, a terrific young player, is the team’s leading scorer and assist leader. Mardracus Wade leads the Razorbacks in steals, but several other players are also good at stealing the ball from opponents. Marshawn Powell, who lost last season due to a knee injury after just 2 games, has recovered fully and is the 2nd leading scorer….. and tops the team in rebounds using his 240 lbs. bulk in the paint. Coty Clark is 2nd in rebounds to Powell.

Arkansas has defeated Tennessee, Missouri and Florida at Bud Walton arena….so they have proven themselves to be very tough to defeat at home against good opponents.

UK arrives in Fayetteville fresh off 3 straight solid wins in which the Cats played arguably their best games of the season. The starting lineup of Mays, Harrow, Goodwin, Poythress and WCS has worked out well. All 5 starters have improved and are playing more as a team. Although, the loss of Noel has been huge in the paint on defense, WCS has really stepped up his game on both offense and defense. Harrow has been playing his best basketball of the season as has Poythress. Importantly, Mays has found his long range shot and has also developed as a team leader. Goodwin has been playing more under control and even made some perimeter shots. Polson continues to give solid minutes off the bench and only Wiltjer has been out of sync the past few games. Kyle’s offense will likely be needed against Arkansas….so hopefully he finds his mojo soon.

Right now UK is in the NCAA, but they still likely need to win 2 of the remaining 3 games to assure themselves of an NCAA invite. UK appears to be peaking and playing their best basketball….now they need to continue to play well to defeat Arkansas on the road. I see a UK 5 point win over the Razorbacks.
