The Florida Gators are ranked #1 in the college basketball…and are undefeated in winning the SEC title. This is coach Donovan’s best Florida team since his NCAA champion teams several years ago. The Gators are highly experienced starting 4 seniors…they are athletic with good size on their front line….and the bench is excellent with 3 players that would start on most teams. Importantly, Coach Donovan has the Gators playing outstanding defense….often full court defense.

Michael Frazier has hit 94-213 perimeter shots for an outstanding 44.1% and Scottie Wilbekin has his a very good 36.9% from long range on 45-122. Wilbekin also leads the team in assists and steals. Patric Young and Dorian Finney Smith, a terrific sophomore off the bench, lead the team in rebounds. Leading scorer Casey Prather is hitting a sizzling 61.8% from the field.

Florida is always tough at home and is undefeated at home this season. The Gators will look to end their regular season on a high note by defeating UK for the 2nd time this season!

UK heads to Florida after defeating Alabama in an ugly game….the Cats last home game in Rupp arena. This was a huge win as a loss would have meant a 3 game losing streak.

Coach Cal was much more calm on the bench and much more positive with the players….I believe this was a positive move by Cal.

Obviously, UK is in a horrible shooting slump over the past 3 games and it has been costly. The Cat shot a poor 34.2% in losing to Arkansas….a horrible 26.7% in losing to South Carolina…..and a poor 32.7% in defeating Alabama. Over the past 3 games the Harrison twins are a combined 16-60 for 26.6% while James Young is 9-35 for 25.7%.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that UK won’t go far in the SEC tourney or in the NCAA shooting that poorly. What is concerning is that there have been a huge number of misses close to the basket and many of the perimeter shots have been wide open…..yet this team can’t seem to get the ball in the basket.

UK is now faced with playing #! ranked Florida in Gainesville Saturday. It’s obvious that if the Cats have any chance at all against Florida, they will need to play their best game of the year….offensively and defensively…. and start making shots!

Unfortunately, this season has not gone as we had all hoped and it’s hard to believe that the regular season is coming to an end. Still, this young team has taken 2nd place in the SEC and will be in the NCAA. There is still hope that this team might find its mojo at this late time and surprise us….let’s hope so!

Definitely going out on a limb here…..way out on the limb….I’m picking UK to upset the Gators by 1 point! GO CATS!
