New coach Reggie Witherspoon replaced coach Jim Baron who retired. Coach Witherspoon was previously an assistant coach at Chattanooga and Alabama and HC at Buffalo where he coached for 14 years.

Canisius returns 3 of it’s top 4 scorers. Forward Phil Valenti averaged 14.6 PPG last season while hitting a very good 47-121 (38.8%) from the perimeter while leading the team in rebounds. Guard Kassius Robertson averaged 14.1 PPG and shot a terrific 86-213 (40.4%) while leading the team in assists. Forward Jeramine Compton shot a solid 35.8% on 38-106 while averaging 10.4 PPG.

Canisius was a terrible defensive team last season ranking 310th out of 346 teams nationally. Obviously, a top priority for new HC Witherspoon will be in significantly improving the defense. Importantly, aside from returning 3 solid scorers from last season they also return 4 other letterman and add several freshmen. The Griffins will have some solid experience along with good height.

Also, they bring 3 very solid perimeter shooters on offense. Look for Canisius to slow the game down and attempt a good number of perimeter shots. UK will be their first game of the season.

I see a 25 point win by the Cats…..GO CATS!
